Multimedia presentations with XenDesktop for single seat license software

Of the roughly 300 staff of the Ampega-Gerling Corporations in Cologne, 80 work with a special finance software that provides finance and holding figures in real time. Because of licensing reasons, the application must be assigned uniquely to individual users. Unlike the other applications at AmpegaGerling, this application could not be provisioned conventionally via classic presentation servers with Citrix XenApp for arbitrary access via thin clients. sepago's task was the technical implementation of the strategy specified by the customer, which allowed individual allocation of the software via virtualized desktops.

After being commissioned to perform the work, sepago analyzed the existing IT infrastructure in a workshop with the customer and developed a concept for the integration of the software. It was decided not to use the existing XenDesktop version 2.0 for desktop virtualization, but to carry out an upgrade as XenDesktop 3.0 guarantees a significantly improved multimedia presentation with a reworked ICA protocol. In the subsequent proof of concept, the software ran flawlessly on all clients in the test environment, which led to rollout. After consultation with the customer, sepago was also asked to set up a high-availability xenDesktop environment that now guards the customer's sensitive software-based finance business as far as possible against system failures.
