Workshop for the introduction of the Citrix Profile Manager

challenge

BITMARCK is the full service provider for the public health insurance. With a high-availability data center with around 380 terminal servers and 25 silos, BITMARCK supports around 12,000 staff in the branches of the DAK. The merger processes in the public health insurance sector generate larger and larger administrative units that need growing and economically efficient IT support. A homogeneous IT infrastructure und permanent optimization of existing processes are a basic requirement for modern health insurance management. BITMARCK is thus always on the search for optimization potential in the IT infrastructure. In 2009, BITMARCK wanted to evaluate the introduction of the Citrix Profile Manager (CpM) in this context. The CpM solves frequently-occurring profile problems in silo environments. To evaluate the existing conditions and to develop a migration scenario for the introduction of the CpM, BITMARCK sought the support of an external IT consultancy.

sepago`s tasks

  • Evaluation of the CpM`s suitability as a solution for BITMARCK
  • Development of migration scenarios
  • Consulting in regard to the migration implementation

solution

BITMARCK commissioned Cologne-based IT consultants sepago, developers of sepagoPROFILE, a much-noticed profile management solution which sepago later integrated into the Citrix product range in cooperation with Citrix and which is now known as the CpM. In a workshop, sepago's consultants set up a test environment that was used to develop the individual configuration of the CpM for BITMARCK. After discussion of various migration scenarios and advice from sepago, BITMARCK decided to carry out an offline migration of the user profiles. For this purpose, BITMARCK will use the freeware tool sepago Profile Nurse which permits very detailed settings for an automated processing of user profiles. In the aftermath of the workshop, sepago compiled an extensive documentation which represents the conclusion of the planning and the basis for the implementation of the CpM at BITMARCK.
