IT-Architect

"I am probably a rare specimen in that I am both consultant and developer. When you are a consultant, programming expertise often comes in handy. Writing small scripts to automate tedious tasks is a no-brainer. The ability to quickly develop the perfect tools for complex migration scenarios is a real benefit for the customer. In more than 10 years of working for several large enterprises I had the ability to hone both my consulting and development skills. When you are a developer, consulting experience is a great asset. I was the architect of the user profile management solution sepagoPROFILE, which has become Citrix User Profile Manager. Why was sepagoPROFILE so successful? Because our consulting background helped us design the product in such a way that it fits neatly into heterogeneous environments, is easy to set up and maintain. In my spare time I pursue several projects related to IT. In the early 2000s, when I needed a command line program to manage printer permissions and could not find one, I decided to write my own tool for the task, SetACL. I did not stop at printer permissions, but wrote a universal tool for automated permission management. Its success speaks for itself – SetACL has been downloaded more than 290,000 times. It’s free and open source! When I got the chance to work with O’Reilly Germany, I did not have to think twice. I have proofread several books for technical correctness (among them the famous Active Directory book) and written my own little compendium, a guide to the command line tools in Windows. In September 2009 I received the Citrix Technology Professional (CTP) award. Many thanks to all those who have made that possible. You can find and contact me on Twitter as HelgeKlein. iTunes is a strange animal. Many IT professionals have a love-hate relationship with it, maybe because it is in many ways ... different. It just does not feel right, at least on Windows. Apple nonchalantly (or arrogantly?) ignored the established way a Windows application is supposed to work and ported several things from OS X (just look at the scroll bars!).

Dinosaurs on Your Hard Disk: Historical Files in Windows 7 Everybody Seems to Have Forgotten About geschrieben von Helge Klein am 15.07.2011

Everybody knows that Windows installations become bigger with every version. But Windows' hard disk footprint grows not only because Microsoft adds new files, but also because some files seem to be delete-proof and are not removed, even though they have been obsolete for ages. This is a compilation of some of these files along with images of their 1990's style icons.
